American Buffalo
Seattle Immersive Theatre
701 5th Ave N, Seattle
Listening to the punchy, profane dialogue of David Mamet can already feel like stepping into another world, but Seattle Immersive Theatre is making that feeling a reality, transforming an empty storefront in Ballard into the setting of Mamet's sharp take on greed and white male fragility, American Buffalo. Step into an overstocked emporium of wares and antiques, and be transported into the play's junk-shop realm, where owner Don and a couple buddies stage a misbegotten plot to steal back a valuable rare coin he accidentally sold away for too little. The banter-fueled heist drama that ensues pulls no punches with its terse and often vulgar language, made all the grittier by a space that puts you right in the heart of the action.
