The World of Extreme Happiness shines a harsh light on the human price of China's urban-led economic boom by focusing on Sunny, the unwanted female child of a farm couple. Escaping to the city at age 14, the naive girl finds janitorial work in a factory and strives to improve her lot by attending self-help classes. But when her own rise through the ranks causes calamity for a coworker, she finds herself in the ironic position of having to defend a system she's now seriously questioning. Award-winning playwright Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig's The World of Extreme Happiness was dubbed "salty, surreal, bombastic" and "bruisingly funny" by Time Out London. Come see it at The Bathhouse Theater in Seattle.
